Newton

Let me suggest a book to you called "Uncommon Friends," by James Newton. The author, who passed away recently, wrote about his five friends: Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, Alexis Carrel and Charles Lindbergh.

Uncommon Friends is the last book I read in the twentieth century. It seems fitting doesn't it? I read each segment twice. I had read numerous books on many of these men, but Jim Newton didn't come up on my radar screen until I heard motivational speaker Danny Cox interview him on the Voices of Experience audio magazine from the National Speakers Association. I had the privilege of communicating with Jim Newton, through Danny, as recently as a few weeks ago.

The friends of Jim Newton shaped an enormous part of our moment-to-moment lives. These men represent much of the work accomplished in the century just past. Days before the end of the twentieth, Jim Newton joined those who helped define the era and its people. While Lindbergh asserted that death is not the end, but rather a great beginning, it still behooves me to publicly say farewell to Jim Newton, and farewell to that century in which you existed on this earth.
